For a team that is not exactly renowned for its high octane performances the introduction of James Lee has been a much needed burst of energy. Like his hero Steven Gerrard, James is one of those players that demonstrates his youthful exuberance by popping up everywhere, up front, in midfield, in defence, in goal and also, his most comfortable position, in the pub.

It is hard to fault James's work rate or the quality he brings to the team. He has weighed in with some fantastic performances and some great goals which have undoubtedly contributed to the upturn in the team's fortunes during the 2005/2006 season. His performances in the pub have been equally proficient. He has an amazing knowledge of trivia which makes him a perfect member of a pub quiz team and his ability to soak up alcohol without anyone being aware that he has drunk a drop is awe inspiring.

Unsurprisingly for such a talented footballer James is widely recognised out and about, but sadly for him he is rarely recognised as himself. Somewhat bizarrely he has an uncanny knack of being mistaken for any one of a number of luminaries and not all of them are men. It may be useful to be a spitting image of Lady Diana or Alan B’Stard if you want to make a career out of opening supermarkets or village fetes, but it can be somewhat disheartening for a young footballer. A few more quality performances for the Falcons and maybe just maybe Rik Mayall will be appearing as James Lee at a supermarket opening near you in the days to come.
