As a schoolboy, Marcus was tipped for great things in the world of football. His striking prowess lit up the otherwise extremely dull Derby and District amateur ranks and it seemed as though nothing could stand in the way of this rising star. Sadly, however, Marcus's blossoming football career was cruelly nipped in the bud when his parents sent him off to follow in his father's footsteps with a career in the circus.

Strangely unhappy with this new life, Marcus learnt the skills necessary to affect a dramatic escape and one day in front of a transfixed audience he swung acrobatically on the bearded lady's facial hair, launched himself into the air and landed on the back of Gazelle Boy who in his fright carried Marcus clear away and on to what was surely to be a better life. Having changed his identity Marcus decided to turn to education where he excelled himself by achieving a Masters degree in pub culture, but unfortunately once again fate dealt him a cruel blow leading him into a dead-end media job. His football career appeared to be in tatters.

In a misguided attempt to revive his former glories on the football pitch, Marcus was central in the drinking binge which led to the formation of the Falcons. His enthusiasm was repaid with an unwelcome conversion to centre half, where fortunately for the Falcons his background on the playing fields of Derbyshire and in big-tops around the country led to some commanding performances. It was, however, on an even more unwelcome foray into the world of goalkeeping that the legend of "The Freak - A circus boy done good" really began to find its way into Falcons pub lore. Marcus's agility was so fantastic that Falcon's management decided to never let him near the goal again in order to avoid a rival team noticing his talent and poaching him.

The Freak's leadership abilities both on the pitch and in the pub earned him the respect of his team mates and a two season stint as team captain. He won both the 'Manager's player of the season award' and the coveted 'Players player of the season award' in the 2000/2001 season.
